Book excerpt: "This work is a womanist theological perspective in response to the causes and effects of spiritual and psychological disorientation due to the trauma of Childhood Sexual Abuse (CSA). I will refer to this spiritual and psychological condition as Trauma-based Psycho-Spiritual Disorientation (TPSD). My claim is that understanding the various facets of Trauma- based Psycho-Spiritual Disorientation will contribute to a deeper understanding of the necessity of worship especially for women of color. The goal of this study is to acknowledge specific psychological conditions, spiritual and behavioral responses that manifest in the life of women of color post-trauma, and apply womanist theological solution of worship. Womanist theory and theology will assist this work by providing a different point of view as it relates to trauma. This work will help its readers gain insight about the stress of living with psychological and spiritual disorientation due to the trauma of CSA. It will also bring attention to the significant correlation of CSA and Domestic Violence (D.V.). It is my goal to present definitions and terms relevant to the work so that the reader may gain a clear understanding of what Trauma-based Psycho-Spiritual Disorientation is as a treatable/curable disease. The target of this dissertation is to reveal some of the recognizable response behaviors of a woman dealing with the aftereffects of traumatization, and provide some philosophical and theological reasoning for those responses. As a result, the readers of this work will grasp an awareness of the necessity for corporate worship to include women of color. The targeted areas of awareness include the physical, psychological, and pneumatic (spiritual) perceptions of the self and others within the Postmodern Urban Church. This includes acknowledging both the identity of the person sitting in the pews, and the identity of the Church as a whole. This study does not promise to provide or substitute a cure to women of color who are currently dealing with the effects of Trauma-based Psycho-spiritual Disorientation. The information provided here is not to replace professional therapy for psychological illnesses. This work simply provides logic, concepts, and experiences that may help to shape and affirm individual paths to spiritual and psychological wellness"--Abstract.
